How to apply for sponsorship
Please note that to allow appropriate assessment of your sponsorship application and to ensure that the opportunity is maximised for NZTE, event sponsorship decisions normally require at least 12 months' lead time.
To apply for event sponsorship by NZTE, first pre-assess your eligibility by addressing the two points below.
1. Identify your NZTE sector, regional or investment champion.
- This implies that you have had meaningful engagement with a person at NZTE about your event; and
- This person has indicated that they are prepared to drive this event with the assistance of the NZTE Marketing Group.
2. What NZTE sector, regional or investment strategy will your event assist with?
- What NZTE sector or region does your event focus on?
- How will your event help NZTE achieve its strategies for this sector or region?
If you are able to address these points, please email your answers in a short paragraph to events@nzte.govt.nz. On receipt of this information, a representative of the NZTE events team will contact you to discuss your application further.
If you wish to progress your application, you will need to complete a comprehensive NZTE sponsorship application.
If you are unable to address points 1 and 2, you are currently not eligible for NZTE events funding. You may wish to talk with a sector, regional or investment representative from NZTE. To do this, call NZTE on 0800 555 888 to be connected with an appropriate person.
Ineligibility
Applications will be deemed ineligible if they are:
- inconsistent with New Zealand’s laws and regulations
- for requests of more than 50 percent of the event’s total cost
- received from other Government departments, agencies or public entities
- for the purpose of purchasing NZTE services.
If it is a compelling case or a whole of government initiative, some flexibility is possible. Please contact the events team by email to discuss.
Other sources of support
If your event is not eligible for NZTE sponsorship, consider alternative funding opportunities, including the Ministry of Economic Development (small business funding), the Ministry of Tourism and Sport and Recreation New Zealand.
NZTE also works with the Inter Agency Event Group's (IAEG) Major Event Economic Development Fund administered by Tourism New Zealand. For events of major national significance, event organisers can consider applying to this fund.
The IAEG evaluates event sponsorship applications on the basis of fit with economic, social and cultural, and international exposure criteria.
