Tim Gibson today resigned as the Chief Executive of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. He will continue to lead the organisation until a successor is appointed.
Mr Gibson has been the first Chief Executive of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, leading the establishment of the organisation from the merger between Trade New Zealand, Industry New Zealand and Investment New Zealand in July 2003.
NZTE Chairman Jon Mayson says Mr Gibson has overseen six years of great achievement for NZTE. “Tim indicated this time last year that he wanted to move on in 2009, and he has confirmed that his month.
“Under his leadership, NZTE has become an organisation that is seen as highly credible internationally and he has developed a professional team of talented people. Last year NZTE was recognised by its international peers, receiving the World Trade Organization’s “Best of the Best” Award at the World Trade Organization Awards, winning against the likes of Austrade and UKTI.”
Mr Gibson says it is an appropriate time to leave, knowing that not only is the organisation successful, but that New Zealand business is continuing to grow internationally.
“The most important measure is the success of New Zealand business in the marketplace – and appropriately, last night we celebrated the success of 17 outstanding businesses and eight business leaders in the New Zealand International Business Awards.”
“My tenure has been a great period to lead an organisation. NZTE has an exciting future, with the Government’s focus on increasing productivity, innovation and international performance, and targeting support for businesses and industries that are internationally competitive. I look forward to watching NZTE continue to flourish. Our focus on Asia is a high point,” he says.
The NZTE Board is commencing the process to find a successor to Mr Gibson immediately.
