Regional development strategies for New Zealand

Regional development and business development go hand in hand. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) supports regions as they develop sustainable strategies for economic growth, and put them into action.

Regional Strategy Fund

NZTE’s Regional Strategy Fund helps regions improve the quality of their regional business environment through the development and implementation of regional economic development strategies. The strategies will articulate clear actions across the economic development spectrum and identify key partners for engagement in each area identified for action.

The Regional Strategy Fund works alongside the Ministry of Economic Development’s contestable Enterprising Partnerships Fund, which focuses on substantial regional projects that are commercially driven, generate substantial economic benefits for the region, and align with the Government’s national economic transformation goals.

For more information see NZTE Regional Strategy Fund page.

  • These funds replace NZTE’s Regional Partnership Programme (RPP), which ran for seven years until 30 June 2007 and included funding for strategic planning, capability building, inter-regional capability building, and Major Regional Initiatives.
  • You can read the Cabinet paper outlining the purpose of the new funds here or Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard’s media release and speech at www.beehive.govt.nz/mallard.
