Enterprise Development Grants

The Enterprise Development Grants programme (EDG) aims to assist New Zealand businesses and entrepreneurs to gain additional skills and abilities to pursue their business development goals by building capability and supporting development initiatives.

The Enterprise Development Grants programme consists of two components, a Capability Building component (EDG-CB) and a Market Development component (EDG-MD).

Market Development component

Businesses can apply for assistance with the implementation of significant international market development initiatives, including expenditure related to:

  • Market visits
  • In-market representation
  • Advertising and promotion
  • Marketing materials
  • Trade fairs and events
  • Market research.

Enterprise Development Grant for Market Development funding update

Based on the number of applications that NZTE has now received, this funding has now all been provisionally allocated.

Applications are processed on a “first-in, first-served” basis and NZTE is now managing a stand-by pool of applicants. Any funding that is freed up in the future will be made available to these companies first.

You are welcome to continue with an application and become part of the stand-by pool, which could give you a better chance of accessing any future funding if it becomes available.

Future funding may become available as companies drop out of the multi-year scheme. However, we cannot guarantee if or when this future funding could become available

Capability Building component

Entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses can apply for co-funding under the Capability Building component to:

  • Employ a business mentor
  • Undertake advanced management or technology-based training
  • Engage an advisory board for a period of up to three years (businesses only)
  • Undertake some strategic market development activities
  • Undertake strategic business development activities
  • Undertake a feasibility study
  • Undertake business and operational excellence activities
  • Undertake e-commerce and e-business strategies

Capability Building and SmartStart

The EDG-CB has been aligned with the SmartStart grant offered by the Foundation for Research Science and Technology (FRST). SmartStart is designed to assist in the funding of Research and Technology activities, and like the EDG-CB, is targeted at small to medium-sized businesses.
