Recent participants have said:

“At least 16 of us have attended these sessions, including some of our younger people who will be our future trustees… Increased knowledge has encouraged trustees to invite and consider some investment options… Long and short term strategies have been put in place to develop the land… Trustees are more aware of their responsibilities, they are now attending meetings a lot better than before, they are now making more informed decisions, they are not afraid to question and they realise they need to be a lot more proactive.”

“I believe our people have moved forward a lot since they went through the Mäori Trustee Training. They have gained confidence, they are comfortable in making decisions, they are proud of what they are achieving, and they are now lifting their eyes and looking to the future.”

“Tino pai rawa! Very good! I enjoyed every minute. The course was very informative and helped me clear up a lot of legal points.”

What is included in the programme?

Needs Assessment

There is the opportunity for a one-on-one, or group assessment with fellow trustees, to assess needs and identify governance skills required in order to tailor the programme to your specific needs.

Trusteeship Overview

This group training workshop provides an overview of the programme and introduces participants to the skills and responsibilities associated with being a trustee. Participants can make an informed assessment as to whether they are ready and/or
willing to be a trustee as well as gaining an overview of the full
programme outlining the value of each workshop.

Training Workshops

All group training workshops are designed so you leave with ideas, knowledge and tips you can actually implement. These workshops are centred around practical learning based on case studies.

The programme contains eight modules based around the following topics:

  1. Trustees roles and responsibilities
  2. Long term strategy and planning
  3. Operational and business planning
  4. Management performance evaluation
  5. Risk and risk management
  6. Quality control systems
  7. Self monitoring and review
  8. Understanding financial basics.

Follow-up Coaching

One-on-one follow-up coaching may be available to workshop attendees to help implement the skills, ideas and knowledge gained in the group training.
