I have been with NZTE for over 9 years, and still finding my job evolving and challenging enough to keep me interested. Working for NZTE in one of its global network offices, is a double benefit as it exposes me to the high professional standards of New Zealand business/government operations as well as the dynamic experiences of international marketing. While my sector specialization is mainly ICT and Consultancy, market coverage is Gulf and Middle East, I find it highly valuable to to be part of the small team of the Middle East region with exposure to a wide variety of sectors, markets, and experiences.

I enjoy the intellectual challenge posed by the role of Regional Manager and Regional Economic Development Advisor for the Tairawhiti to Wairarapa, Tararua and Hawkes Bay regions. Working with people from different regions on projects that have both similarities and differences enables me to work with a variety of teams to help craft solutions that build sustainable regional growth.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise brings together expertise from around New Zealand and our offshore offices so that regions can tap into valuable information from around the world.
Being part of a global organisation that has a clear focus on creating wealth for our country and its people is exciting and provides a stimulating learning environment. I thrive on learning new things and on being able to make a contribution that makes a difference - I have found a position with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise that enables me to do just that.
I'm currently NZTE's Trade Commissioner in Sydney - a role focused on increasing the depth of New Zealand's commercial relationships with Australia. This will come from building stronger strategic relationships with key Australia-based businesses, encouraging more New Zealand businesses to become successful Australasian ("ANZAC") businesses, as well as finding opportunities for New Zealand and Australian industries to work together to go global. I came to this role from the position of Tourism Sector Director with NZTE. This is also my second stint with NZTE having broken an earlier position with the strategy team to spend some time on the management team at the New Zealand Racing Board and TAB. I can therefore testify to the great opportunities that a career with NZTE provides for those interested in New Zealand's economic development..
I am very passionate about New Zealand and working for an organisation whose focus is to build New Zealand business capability, improve the environment for enterprise and growth and build international connections for business is very rewarding.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise also offers a supportive learning environment and always encourages staff to further develop themselves.
What I love most about my role is the diversity, being able to grow in my role, and being given stimulating work on a daily basis. I am lucky to work with a group of fun and intelligent people and to have a manager who is a great mentor and fabulous leader.
I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.
Having the opportunity to now be part of the global network, working for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise gives you the chance to be part of building and growing sustainable business.
I love the variety of people we work with and the opportunity to encourage them to reach for growth and innovation through building their knowledge and capability.
The fantastic thing is that you get to see, in an immediate way, the link to community wellbeing through having a vibrant and dynamic business community.
I enjoy working for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise because my current role allows me to make a real contribution to the future of the New Zealand food and beverage sector.
I am a very passionate "Foodie" and am constantly inspired by the number of very successful and highly innovative food and beverage companies we have in New Zealand - it is great to be able to work with companies to assist them in their growth endeavours, and to know that I have made a difference to the outcome.
NZTE has been a great environment to bring together my commercial and language skills. Life in an overseas office is incredibly varied - it's not just that you're living in another country, but more the fact that you work across such a vast array of sectors and meet an incredible number of people during the course of a day or week.
It's also pretty satisfying when you hear that a New Zealand company has just done some business as a result of an opportunity you have spotted, or marketing advice provided.

The opportunity to assist New Zealand businesses build their capability and develop their export markets gives me great satisfaction. The ability to pass on my business experience to others that are attempting what I have previously achieved is very rewarding.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has enabled me to have a greater understanding of New Zealand business in general. I started as a client manager with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and after two and a half years I moved on to a Trade Commissioner role. My days are now filled with meetings discussing the strengths of New Zealand businesses and matching potential opportunities as a result. My new position further complements my skills and knowledge.

It's exciting working for an organisation that is so passionate about getting New Zealand on the map and raising our profile internationally as a nation that's more than just "clean and green".
I work with a group of creative and dynamic people whose experience and enthusiasm is making a difference to how people perceive New Zealand - both onshore and offshore, by creating an interest and supplying the tools to discover what New Zealand's businesses have to offer (eg www.marketnewzealand.com).
My role consists of a diverse range of tasks that enable me to interact with other members of the Marketing Group and the wider organisation as well as external stakeholders. Each day is different, presenting a variety of tasks and challenges. The group and organisation as a whole is friendly, supportive and fun, which makes it that much easier coming to work each day!
Name Michelle SullivanPosition Investment Manager, BiotechologyGroup Investment New Zealand/Europe/Middle East / Africa and Wood Processing Location Auckland
The Investment New Zealand Biotechnology team is part of the wider New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Biotechnology team, and this provides a stimulating team environment for exchanging ideas, keeping connected to New Zealand companies and working collectively on large projects.
The highlights of my role are many and varied, but I particularly enjoy maintaining a broad knowledge of global trends in the sector, by reading current literature, market intelligence reports and networking with high-level contacts in biotechnology companies, venture capital funds and other government agencies. I also relish the project work required in the job, such as developing a dedicated business case to profile New Zealand as a compelling investment destination for companies considering investing here. This is especially rewarding when it results in an inward investment for the New Zealand biotechnology industry, or helps one of our own emerging companies secure offshore funding.
Originally appointed as a Business Development Consultant in Biotechnology, I have been supported within the organisation to grow within the role, which resulted in my appointment as Investment Manager. Another real benefit of the organization is the opportunity to work with colleagues who are experts in their respective fields, including ICT, food and beverage, screen production, wood processing and specialised manufacturing, as well as corporate finance and investment banking experts. This has been invaluable in helping me learn a range of new skills.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise is very supportive of staff seeking offshore secondments. I have been fortunate to cover a colleague's maternity leave in New York for three and a half months, and have recently been based in London for six months to explore investment opportunities.
