Aichi: Business Leveraging Projects

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise is coordinating a number of projects to take advantage of the business opportunities presented by the Aichi World Expo 2005.  Other agencies involved in the projects include the Ministry of Research Science and Technology, and Tourism New Zealand.

The projects include:

  • A project to scope Japan’s ICT market and evaluate commercial opportunities with the objective of developing a programme of activities in Japan
  • A study of the New Zealand–Japan trade and economic relationship to explore strengths and weaknesses of existing trade, the potential for growth, and methods of moving the trade and economic relationship forward
  • Collaborative greenhouse gas research using new DNA-based techniques to explore factors affecting methane emissions from livestock
  • Developing clay-polymer nanocomposite technology for potential applications in New Zealand and overseas
  • A pilot training project with Japan to improve workplace productivity by exposure to world class practices in specialised manufacturing design and processing
  • Building increased awareness of and interest in sister cities, sharing best practice nationally, and better highlighting opportunities that provide economic benefit to NZ
  • A feasibility study on an on-the-ground biotechnology presence in Japan
  • Developing collaborative projects to enable New Zealanders to unlock global value chains in ICT through partnering with key Japanese companies.
