NZTE publishes a graphical representation of the export earnings profile of our exporters, otherwise known as the “wine glass”. There has been a slight improvement in the shape of the wine glass over the 12 months to the end of June 2005 with a thickening of the glass stem - exporters earning more than $25 million increased by 2 to total 160, and those earning more than $5 million increased by 14 to total 590. In the year to June 2005, 51 exporters accounted for almost 60 percent of total merchandise exports, worth $16.8 billion. Out of a total of 12,303 exporting companies, the top 358 generated 82 percent of exports by value, with each generating volumes worth more than $10 million a year. Fully 7409 exporters – or more than half the total – each generated volumes worth less than $50,000 a year.(Source: Statistics NZ)
