Andrew Wells was one of the founding members of Contract Resources Group, a small industrial services company, which began in Auckland in 1989 servicing Oil & Gas operators with highly specialised heavy industry maintenance services. Its initial customer base included the New Zealand Refining Company, and Mobil Australia’s Altona and Adelaide refineries.
The company swiftly extended into Asia in the 1990s, with Andrew relocating from New Zealand to head-up operations. He then moved to Australia in 1999 and delivered significant expansion of Contract Resources there.
He became Group CEO, during which time South American operations commenced (2001), the USA business was formed (2006) and Middle Eastern companies established (from 2010).
By 2017 Contract Resources employed 2000 people with sales of $180m, then in 2018 the highly successful global business was purchased by an Australian private equity firm.
Accordingly Andrew has hands-on experience of taking a business into diverse new export markets. His skills include in-depth knowledge of operations, contracts, health and safety, governance, strategy and finance within Oil & Gas and Heavy Industry.
He was a Director of 18 Contract Resources companies and joint ventures, and has been a member of Stornoway Tasmania’s advisory board for two years.
He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and completed the Executive Program at Darden Business School (University of Virginia).
