Frank Owen combines extensive knowledge of continental Europe with a strong track record of growing internationally successful businesses, both in Europe and from New Zealand.
Based in Vienna where he runs an innovation advisory company serving business and education in New Zealand and Europe, Frank formerly worked as CEO and managing director of Tait Communications in New Zealand, as CEO of GPC Electronics based in Christchurch, at Tyco Electronics in the US, and at Philips in the UK, France, Austria and the Netherlands.
Originally from the UK, Frank Owen is a Kiwi with more than 25 years’ experience as a high technology business leader and entrepreneur. Having held leadership roles in New Zealand and Europe, he knows first-hand the obstacles Kiwi companies face and what is required to grow a business in Europe; having overcome the challenge himself working both at SMEs and multinational companies.
A sought-after coach and mentor, Frank is dedicated to obtaining a deep understanding of the customer, company and institutional needs. He is passionate about action-oriented learning in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. Frank’s approach is to stimulate an organisation's ability to deeply empathise and collaborate with customers and partners. He works with exporters to identify and leverage opportunities for growth and innovation.
Prior to working in New Zealand, Frank was global VP & general manager of Tyco Electronics Power Components Division in California, overseeing a significant uplift in worldwide revenues.
Frank began his career in engineering as a research scientist with Philips Electronics in the UK. He went on to work in a variety of project management and sales and marketing roles in France, Austria and the Netherlands; notably creating and launching a Europe-wide portfolio of wireless radio communication products, now a multi-EUR 100m business.
Frank is an independent director in New Zealand, member of the Callaghan Innovation Stakeholder Advisory Group and sits on the University of Canterbury International Advisory Board.
Frank lives in Austria and is a fluent French and German speaker.
