Ramanathan Ramanan is a senior executive at Tata Consultancy Services. He has been appointed as the Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission under NITI Aayog. Atal Innovation Mission is the Government of India endeavour to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. Its objective is to serve as a platform for promotion of world-class innovation hubs, start-ups, businesses and other self-employment activities, particularly in technology driven areas.
Ramanathan Ramanan was the managing director and CEO of CMC Limited, a subsidiary of TCS (Tata Consultancy Services). TCS is one of the world's leading IT companies and part of the prestigious Tata Group.
He has been instrumental in overseeing the transformation of CMC Limited from a public sector government-owned organisation to a global company and has played an important role in spurring computerisation of various business processes in India using indigenous technology.
He has led CMC's focus on large national projects in the areas of education, creating jobs, major e-governance initiatives, the Indian census, government services and defence projects enabling the growth of nationwide infrastructure.
He has been responsible for a number of strategic business development initiatives in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region including Australia, New Zealand and China. He also plays a key role in the strategy group of TCS.
He holds a B Tech in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai and has been the recipient of some prestigious national awards like 'Udyog Rattan Award' conferred upon him by the Institute of Economic Studies, 'Indira Gandhi Sadbhavna Award' and 'Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award' for his outstanding individual achievements and distinguished services to the nation from the National Integration & Economic Council.
Ramanan was conferred with the prestigious title “CEO of the Year 2015” by CMO Asia in a glittering ceremony held in Singapore. He was also featured as one of India’s most “Value”able CEOs by Businessworld in 2011 and 2013, assessed on the basis of consistent value imparted to its stakeholders over a period of three years. He was the only CEO to be featured among the Top 9 most “Value”able CEOs twice for the same title.
Ramanan has also attained Harvard Business School accreditation for the Advanced Management Program designed to transform proven leaders into global executives for driving innovation and corporate performance.
CMC’s global growth has led to its full amalgamation into TCS in October 2015, and Ramanan is now part of the Senior Executive Management of TCS, heading some key strategic initiatives.
Ramanan is an avid reader, a literary and music enthusiast and a poet in his free time. He lives in Mumbai with his wife and two daughters.
