Trade Commissioner, Shanghai
Damon joined NZTE in January 2016 as a Trade Commissioner based in Shanghai.
Damon has 18 years of business experience in East Asia having served in professional services with global accounting and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). During his PwC career, Damon lived and worked in Singapore and the Philippines for 2 and 4 years respectively before relocating to China in 2004. Upon joining PwC in Shanghai, Damon developed and led a 30 person international trade and customs consulting team and worked alongside tax, regulatory, and transfer pricing colleagues.
Damon’s areas of practical experience includes market access (regulatory, tariff and non-tariff measures), business models (distributors, subsidiaries, regional principal, cash repatriation, cross-border and domestic e-commerce), business development, people development, customer relationships, project management, and customs and international trade (trade facilitation, free trade agreements, free trade zones, customs brokerage and customs clearance, bonded warehousing and bonded manufacturing, compliance in terms of declarations and duty payments, and government relations and dispute resolution).
Damon has an additional 4 years of experience work as a Customs Officer in Auckland, New Zealand. Damon has a Masters in Customs and International Trade Law and is a regular contributor to Exporter Magazine and the New Zealand China Trade Association. Damon is also an original member of the American Chamber of Commerce Trade Facilitation Task Force in Shanghai.
