Case study

Streamlining the business registration and licensing process in the Philippines to improve access for local business owners.

The Challenge

The business licensing and registration system in the Philippines was a bureaucratic and time-consuming process, and modern digital services were underutilised.

Why New Zealand?

New Zealand is consistently ranked #1 of 190 economies in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business index.

The outcome

To demonstrate the technical possibilities available to the Philippines Government, working prototypes were designed and delivered over a six-month period.

The prototypes have the ability to radically change the way businesses register themselves with the government. […] This method can compress years of work into months and weeks and provides us with the chance to seriously make improvements in our Ease of Doing Business ranking.
