Helping smallholder orchardists in Himachal Pradesh to improve productivity and fruit quality

The Challenge

To generate better returns for growers and create more jobs and improved livelihoods for people of Himachal Pradesh.

Why New Zealand?

Due to the country's leading production and post-harvest systems, New Zealand's apple industry has the highest productivity levels in the world.

The outcome

Funded by the World Bank, the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Development Project is harnessing New Zealand's expertise to improve production of the region's key fruit crops.

To be able to share this knowledge to support communities in developing regions is very rewarding. It also […] supports the relationship between New Zealand and India, and their respective apple industries.
