New Zealand ranked first in Sustainable Trade Index 2022
New Zealand have been ranked first in the Sustainable Trade Index, demonstrating the success of the 'Trade for All' agenda, and a successful COVID-19 economic recovery plan.
The index assesses based on three key pillars: economic growth, environmental protection, and societal development. New Zealand ranked first in environmental protection and societal development, scoring highly on labour standards, political stability, air pollution, and environmental standards in trade- according to Minister for Trade and Export Growth, the Hon Damien O'Connor. O'Connor went on further to say- 'New Zealand is out in front thanks to our commitment to rules-based and liberal international trade, high quality environmental regulation and high levels of social cohesion. '
NZTE's recent campaign 'Do Good, Do Well' weaves these commitments into it's kaupapa, aiming to promote sustainable investment that boosts the local New Zealand economy. Innovative ideas in the consumer goods, cleantech, and manufacturing industries, for example, all promote low emissions, and high sustainability, for a future that is kinder to our planet.
