New Zealand’s best tech companies are taking on the world
The high-quality and innovation of New Zealand’s tech companies is enabling them to take on the world.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise – the government's international development agency – has joined the tech community in congratulating the winners of the 2023 Hi-Tech Awards.
The awards were presented on Friday night in Christchurch, before New Zealand's Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins, and more than 1000 people.
Cin7 was the big winner, taking out the PwC Hi-Tech Company of the Year category. The other big winners were Dawn Aerospace, which won both the Hardware and Emerging Company categories, and Formus Labs, which took out the Software and Deep Tech categories.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise – Te Taurapa Tūhono (NZTE) supports all three companies, along with 30 other finalists.
NZTE's Head of Technology and Services, Michael Murphy, said everyone involved with the companies was delighted with their success.
"These tech companies thoroughly deserve the recognition – they are demonstrating to the world that New Zealand has outstanding innovators right across the whole spectrum of technology.
"And they build their companies with the intention to take them global right from the start. It's that ambition and determination that makes them such a pleasure to work with.
"Tech is New Zealand's fastest-growing export sector," Mr Murphy said. "Over the past year, overall revenue for the tech sector is up 9% to $15.1 billion. The number of jobs has grown 11% to 63,000, and revenue per employee is $241,000 – twice the national average.
"Tech is growing at a 30% faster rate than the overall economy and is now our second-largest export sector. The value of these exports is $11.5 billion, representing 14% of New Zealand's total export revenue.
"All the companies that were involved in the Hi-Tech Awards last night are part of this expansion, and bring multiple benefits to the New Zealand economy."
