NZ’s food and beverage takes centre stage in Korea

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise hosted an event showcasing some of New Zealand’s leading food and beverage brands during the Prime Minister’s Mission to Korea.

In 2023, New Zealand exported NZ$1.2 billion in food and beverage to Korea, with the sector making up 43% of all New Zealand’s exports to Korea.

Dairy is the single largest category (NZ$504 million), but fresh produce, honey and wine have all seen significant growth since 2015. Wine is now New Zealand’s fastest growing category in Korea.

The showcase, hosted by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, was attended by key industry partners, retailers and Korean media to highlight the innovative and unique products that New Zealand is known for.

The New Zealand brands on show included Alliance Group, Fonterra, Zespri, Avanza, Silver Fern Farms, Alpine Deer, SHOTT Beverages, Comvita, Sealord, Indevin Group, Kono Wines and Jack Links.

During the event, the Prime Minister also witnessed the signing of a range of new or expanded partnership agreements and celebrated business milestones between Korean and New Zealand companies.

  • Indevin Group celebrated the expansion of its Villa Maria wine brand in the market with new product listings in Korea’s GS Retail and Lotte Mart.

  • Alliance Group signed an MoU with its Korean distributor to expand its premium red meat portfolio and promote Alliance’s award-winning Lumina Lamb.

  • Skyline Enterprises and Busan Tourism Organization signed strategic partnership for promoting international tourists to Busan

  • SHOTT Beverages expanded its footprint with a new partnership agreement that will see its products in One Euro Cafés.

  • Zealandia Pets established a new partnership with fast-growing Korean pet supply website AboutPet.

  • Silver Fern Farms signed a strategic partnership with Highland Foods to drive further expansion of its premium red meat products in Korea.

  • AVANZA marked the launch of the 2024 avocado season with Korean partner Emart, Korea’s largest retailer.

  • New Image International, a pioneer in health & nutritional products, celebrated the opening of its Korea office and product launch.

In addition to the food and beverage showcase, the Business Delegation visited leading Korean multinationals, LG Corporation and Lotte, to share insights, knowledge, explore

connections across innovation, technology and product development and highlight the strong existing links with New Zealand companies.

While at Lotte, the Prime Minister witnessed the signing of new partnerships between Lotte and Fonterra, and SHOTT Beverages and Lotte Global Restaurant Service. He was also able to celebrate 20 years of New Zealand wine brand partnerships with Lotte Liquor and the seven New Zealand wines that have existing partnerships there.
