On 1 November 2017, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and the Angel Association were excited to deliver TechShed, a showcase to profile compelling tech businesses looking for investment, skills and connections to help accelerate their international growth.  12 companies, across 3 distinct stages of growth pitched to 150 guests from the New Zealand Investment ecosystem and VC representatives from Australia and the US.

Participating companies received a package of support from the NZTE Investment team that included strengthening the overall investment readiness of the business, helping develop and refine their ability to pitch for investment ensuring professional delivery, and facilitating introductions to relevant investors both in New Zealand and offshore.

“I would like to thank you all for your efforts over the past month to not only organise and host an amazing event, but more importantly for everything you guys have done for us!  We are incredibly grateful and humbled to have your outstanding support.”  – participating company

A significant addition to this showcase was a new partnership with Tech Crunch, a world leading technology-media company, dedicated to profiling start-ups and breaking tech news. This partnership gave three TechShed participants the opportunity to exhibit in the first ever TechCrunch Battlefield Australasia.  The three winning TechShed companies were The Social Club, The Green Fairy and The Clinician as determined by a panel of US early-stage investors visiting from Silicon Valley.

“Great event, really appreciated the invite.  Good mix of people and have briefed our Angel group about a couple of the pitches and hope to follow them up” – Investor guest

NZTE has delivered nine showcases in four years, with 90 companies showcased and over $150 million invested in Kiwi startups. The companies that participated in TechShed were well placed to impress with their ‘born-global’ outlook and quintessentially kiwi spirit of ingenuity.  Check out more coverage on Tech Shed 17 here.
