PARTNER WITH NEW ZEALAND - UNITED STATES & CANADA

Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome.

New Zealand has deep and longstanding friendships with the United States and Canada, underpinned by a commitment to promote a free, democratic, secure and prosperous world – and these friendships are reflected in strong and thriving business partnerships.

Driven by a storied history of quality and creativity, New Zealand has produced bold and innovative companies that have variously created bandages made from merino wool, carbon-composite rockets, wound care from honey, world-class innovations in software for health care, special effects, 3D games, retail and broadcasting.

New ideas, new materials, new passions – New Zealand companies are riding a tradition of curiosity and fearlessness to create clever new experiences, brands and partnerships with North American partners.

Together, we can do amazing things.

New Zealand and Canada business ties

Canada is New Zealand’s ninth largest export market, with NZ$2.15 billion in New Zealand goods exported to Canada in the year end March 2026. Meat and edible offal is New Zealand's largest export category to Canada, followed by travel, beverages, fruits and nuts, and dairy.

Exports to Canada have continued to grow over the past six years. Two-way trade between Canada and New Zealand stands at NZ$3.4 billion, reflecting our strong relationship.

Canada is a growing market for trade and investment, offering opportunities in health tech, wood and building products, premium food and beverage, specialised manufacturing, clean technology and agritech. There is scope for more collaboration in research, science and technology in these areas.

Canada has identified New Zealand as a priority established market under its Global Markets Action Plan, focusing on ICT, sustainable technology, oil and gas, and life sciences.

New Zealand and United States business ties

As the world's largest economy, the United States is a key source of commercial partnerships for New Zealand. The two nations share a long, trusted and mutually beneficial history of trade and investment.

The United States is New Zealand's third largest export market, with $17.7 billion in New Zealand goods exported to the US in the year end March 2026. Two-way trade between the United States and New Zealand reached NZ$30.54 billion over the same period, reflecting the scale and strength of the relationship. The United States is New Zealand's third-largest source of imports.

It is an extremely important market for New Zealand businesses in the food and beverage (including meat, dairy and wine), manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors.

The United States is also a natural location for New Zealand businesses seeking to take technology of all kinds to the world – from agritech and healthcare to software as a service (SaaS) and other digital products and services.
