Invest New Zealand is an autonomous Crown entity, which means we operate independently, with our own Board, while still being part of the wider public sector. From time to time, we may be required to have regard to government policy when directed by the responsible Minister, but we are not involved in day today political decision making.

This autonomy provides stability and longterm focus, particularly in an environment where our work intersects with multiple government portfolios. At the same time, we remain closely connected to other government agencies, which is important for building confidence with investors and delivering joined up outcomes.

Being an autonomous Crown entity gives us a strong structural foundation. Ultimately, however, our success will be shaped by our leadership, our people, the culture we build together, and our commitment to learning, performance, and continuous improvement.

We are in 14 locations across eight (8) countries, with the majority of our team based in Auckland, New Zealand. Locations of roles are determined by how we best meet the needs of work, sector or investment community.

At Invest New Zealand, flexibility is part of our foundation. We recognise the diverse responsibilities our people hold and support flexible ways of working, including where and when work happens, and time away for important life events or professional development.

In July 2025, Invest NZ transitioned out of NZTE and became its own autonomous crown entity. We now operate independently, however NZTE is a close ally and provides Invest NZ with some crucial back office operations so we can operate effectively while we get ourselves up and running. There is a clear and distinct mandate around where each entity operates.

Invest NZ doesn’t sponsor work visas, nor are we an accredited employer. When we advertise roles, we will note if a visa is required.
